Guest Post: The New Travel Trend – Forget Sun, Think Snow

When you picture an idyllic escape from the daily routine, often sandy beaches and palm trees spring to mind. However, there’s a new travel trend about! People are now opting for unique destinations. They seek trips that take you to foreign lands, exceeding your imagination’s dreams and desires. Agness at etramping is aware of this new craze and enjoys all types of travel sharing insider tips with her readers. In today’s world, there’s no such thing as traveling too much. In fact, it’s more about how quickly you can tick trips off your bucket list. This fascination with discovering the extraordinary has caught on and seems to be leading many off the beaten track.

What’s so great about Snow?

Funnily enough, the travel rates to snowy destinations are much lower during the holiday season. The normal thing to do is for everyone to pack their bags and run off to the hottest place they can find. People usually travel less in winter months. Therefore, you should make use of a bargain opportunity and land yourself an awesome deal! Also, society is saving up for the Christmas months. Why not substitute the money you’re spending on gifts and team up with your fellow friends for a getaway instead?

Snow also has a lot of fun facts surrounding it. For example, did you know that it doesn’t HAVE to be super cold for it to snow? It just needs to be around 32F or lower. Also, every single snowflake has its own stunning design. They’re completely intricate and difficult to replicate, pretty cool right?!

Less Fun in the Sun

If you’re the outdoors type, then a holiday in the snow provides you with SO many activities. Snowmobiling, skiing, and snowboarding are just a few of the sports on offer. Not to mention, building a snowman! Snow-based holidays are often a lot more active than those based on sunshine. You’re out, socializing with friends and enjoying precious moments together. The cold weather allows you to feel more active. Whereas, a break in the scorching heat may make you feel tired and lazy. When you’re in a hot destination, you’ll want to relax by the pool and fill your belly up with drinks and snacks. The healthier option may be the snowy escape!

Where to go for the Snow?

Luckily, there are vast amounts of destinations offering icy retreats. One of these popular places is Greenland. Filled with snow and diverse culture, this island provides visitors with something out of the ordinary. Famous for its massive glaciers, you can access them via helicopter, boats, and hiking. Plus, there’s a massive ice sheet covering the country. A magnificent example of nature’s work!

Icebergs, otherwise known as ‘Illulissat’ in Greenlandic, are truly wonderful here. Despite their titanic reputation, you can really lose yourself in their beauty. These ice sheets come in different shapes and sizes, quite like the snowflake, they’re exquisite. A lot of people sail alongside them in the tranquil waters. Reflecting the shimmering blue sea, it’s easy to see why snow is becoming the new travel trend!

Another location blessed with snow is Antarctica. The southernmost site of the South Pole is smothered head to toe with it! That’s why there’s been such an increase in Antarctic cruises. Everyone wants to sail and see its thriving nature scene. From Emperor penguins to a variety of majestic whales, there’s plenty to capture. Not only is there an array of animals, there’s a selection of awe-inspiring landscapes. If you fancy guiding your own boat, you can actually kayak through floating ice yourself.

Perhaps you’re a little bit of a daredevil? A lot of people take the ‘Polar Bear Plunge’ every year. This is the crazy tradition of plunging into the freezing water and receiving a pure adrenaline rush. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted! So if you do jump, you jump at your own will!

Due to climate change, ice caps are melting and the animals are being forced out of their home so it’s actually an interesting time to go and witness the Antarctic sights. Nowadays, there are many options to travel to Antarctica including cruises and expeditions that allow you to get up close to the Earth’s wonders.

Go for Snow!

As we all know, our society is now “living for the moment”. That’s why it’s great to add a slice of variety to your travel habits. It’s worth getting out of the comfort bubble and trying something different. We are easily swayed by the inflatable beach balls and enticing infinity pools. Yet, you can find hot springs and gorgeous glaciers with a snowy escape. It all depends on your preferences but life is short. Snow sports and wild winter experiences are waiting for you! All you need to do is make a choice. Do you opt for snow or do you opt for sun?

What would you rather head to the snow or sun?

Great post! I was on a hunt for an article about traveling to Germany, and came across your post. I’m always in the sun so I like snow better.

Actually, I just put together an infographic about “10 Must Do’s in Black Forest”. Let me know if you’d like to check it out. If you have any ideas about Black Forest in particular, I’d like to know! -Leah
