If you’re looking for a new destination to visit this summer, then Malta, in the southern Mediterranean Sea has almost everything a tourist could want, from an active nightlife to year-round activities. Never been to Malta? Then here’s a quick guide to why Malta is perhaps one of Europe’s most important destinations.

What is it?

Malta is an island country located in the Mediterranean Sea. It can be found 50 miles south of Italy, 176 miles east of Tunisia and 207 miles north of Libya. Although a small country, at just over 122 square miles, Malta’s location made it a vitally important as a naval base for many empires. Today, it’s one of the Mediterranean’s best-kept secrets, and is primarily used as a summer holiday destination.

What’s so special about Malta?

Location aside, Malta has been a favorite with travelers for years and years. There are many reasons for this: the beautiful landscape, which features picture perfect sapphire blue water and white sands, the beautiful rock formations, the culture, the heritage, the history.

Another great thing about Malta is, that unlike other popular destinations in the region, Malta has managed to maintain something of an air of secrecy about it. The chances are that if you say the name Malta to a friend, they either won’t know what you’re talking about, or they will have been there.

What is there to do there?

Malta boasts over 7,000 years of human history, which is unique to the Mediterranean. A walk around the island can take you to the 16th century Grandmaster’s Palace, which is now used as the parliament building, to the National Museum of Fine Arts, which was built in 1570, to the St. James Centre for Creativity, which houses works of modern art.

Aside from history, the Maltese islands are well-known for being child friendly and there are lots of things for kids and their parents to do there, from marine parks to fun parks, to outdoor adventures, travelers of all ages will have fun while travelling on Malta.

Sea excursions, diving, swimming and boat trips are also very popular with travelers, but the nightlife in Malta is also a major factor for people. Malta’s calendar is always jam packed with events, from concerts to a burgeoning club scene. Here classical music and organ recitals are just as popular as the big name club DJs, while band music and theatre are also traditional and very lively affairs for locals and tourists alike.

There is so much to see and do on Malta. Why not discover this jewel of the Mediterranean this summer?
