Why Now Is A Good Time To Go To Mexico

(Punta Mita, Mexico)

(Punta Mita, Mexico)

Hola, amigos!

I’m writing this post from beautiful Punta Mita, a short hour’s drive north of Puerto Vallarta. We’ve been here for a week and it’s been awesome to sleep in, sunbathe, and… hmm.. that’s about all we’ve been doing really (it’s not a bad life!).

Anyway, if you’re considering going to Mexico, now is a great time to go!  February through April/May-ish is low season so you’ll get better hotel rates, less crowds, and perfect weather – just avoid spring break weeks if you’re going to a party spot. Seriously, while most of the U.S. is suffering a blistery winter, it’s been in the low 80’s everyday here!

The best part, however, is that the exchange rates have really been in our favor so Mexico is even cheaper now than before.  Traditionally, the rates have been 10 pesos to the dollar but now it’s around 13 pesos to the dollar.  Those 3 extra pesos make a big difference!  A 100 peso breakfast, for instance, is no longer $10USD, it’s only $7.69USD. Also, I’ve noticed that vendors aren’t exactly aware of the new exchange rate either so a cabbie may quote you $25USD for a cab ride, but when you ask him how much that is in pesos, he’ll use the old exchange rate and say it’s 250 pesos which is technically only $18USD and some change!  Just think of all the tequilas and sombreros you could buy with your savings! 😉

Since we’ve been staying in Punta Mita, we’ve also visited Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita.  Stay tuned for some more tips on these places in future posts.  Until then, I’ll be laying out by my private pool trying to escape reality for a little big longer.

I just got back from the St Regis Punta Mita – took the other Should Season (early October. You are right, the exchange rate was definitely favorable. The St Regis was amazing. The only disappointment on the trip for me was Sayulita – It was too cramped, congested and a little dirty.
