Over 150 fountains. Four cascades. All powered by gravity. Inspired by European parks and fountains. Peterhof Palace in Pushkin — hands down — has the most extravagant and expansive grounds I have ever seen! The upper garden alone is over 1 square kilometer!

Besides turning every which way and seeing yet another fountain, the coolest thing I learned while roaming the grounds was that Peter the Great was quite the practical joker! He had many “trick” fountains (some even looked like trees and flowers) that would turn on only after people were “trapped” within the boundaries of the water stream. With this ruse, he could easily see (and laugh at) the women who used flour to to paint their face that desired “white” complexion versus the ones who actually paid for the real white makeup — an ingenious way to spot who was cheap and who wasn’t!
I love this place!! it’s so beautiful..definitely one of the most beautiful palaces I’ve ever seen.
Wow..beautiful photos…I have been to there also but I didn’t take much photos! This is awesome;)
I’m sure you both would agree that this place is way more stunning in person than in the pictures. I’ve never seen anything so grand in my life!
