I’m so excited! The new season of The Amazing Race starts tomorrow on CBS! I’ve got at least 10+ seasons of this show under my belt and even though this season will be the 20th season, I’m so stoked that I’ll have my T.A.R. Sunday nights again!
For those of you who haven’t seen the show, The Amazing Race is a game show race around the world. 12 teams start in the U.S., follow clues they are given to figure out what countries they are headed to in each leg of the race and then do challenges specific to the country they are in. The last team to arrive at a “pit stop” is eliminated. Eventually there will be a final race where 3 teams are left and the winner wins a million dollars!
I’d be lying if I said I’ve never thought about applying to be a contestant, but every time I contemplate it, the realization that I’d likely have to spend some nights sleeping in front of a random place waiting for it to open (this happens in every season), gets the better of me… besides, it’s so much fun just watching! I like to pretend that Mr. T and I are teammates (we’d be the token Asians) and while we watch, we discuss which one of us would actually do the challenge. It sounds silly, but I can’t resist!
The thing that I love about the show is seeing all the places the teams go. I hadn’t even heard of Africa’s Burkina Faso until a clue brought all the teams there! And I’ll admit the show’s even inspired me to visit a couple of places, too. I planned a trip to Santiago, Chile, after watching an episode where the teams did a challenge in its Mercado Central. More recently, Mr. T and I made a detour to Malaysia to visit the Batu Caves after I saw it as a pit stop on one of the earlier episodes. I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming season to see what other travel inspiration I get! If you read my last post, you’ll remember that we’re still trying to figure out what to do for our birthdays this year.
Have you seen the show before? Has it inspired any of your travels?
