Since I already mentioned one hotel in Santorini, it’s almost unfair that this hotel is also in Santorini, but that’s just how fab this resort is.
Most visitors to Santorini will stay in Fira or Oia so the Vedema Resort is a bit off the beaten path being located in Megalohori. That said, if you have a few extra days to spend in Santorini, I’d highly recommend stopping here for two or three days to get some R&R before exploring the bustling towns of Fira or Oia, which is exactly what we did.
When we checked in, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we were upgraded to a villa (love it!). Like any hotel suite, we had a living room that was separated from the bedroom.
Having a living room and bedroom is pretty status quo for a suite so I wasn’t ready to sing praises yet… but then I stepped out to our private “backyard”. There was a table for outside dining, lounge chairs, a couch, a swimming pool, and a jacuzzi – all of which overlooked miles and miles of vineyards. The view was reminiscent of wine country (so convenient since it’s one of my other favorite places) but way better because we were in Santorini.
Of course, we uncorked a bottle of red and immediately plopped ourselves on one of the outside couches and soaked this place in. Moments like that make all the grueling traveling for work that I do all worth it (yes, even the time I had to fly to Detroit on a weekly basis during the Midwest winter – ugh).
The resort itself manages to be luxurious, chic, and quaint all at once, and yet still captures the charm of the architecture that’s so “Santorini”. It has all the things you’d expect of a resort – spa, restaurant, pool, hot tub, pool bar, business center – as well as its own wine cave. We even got a private tasting while we were there (the only thing better than wine tasting is getting to do a private one).
Oh, and for those of you who think you can’t get some R&R staying within the confines of a place like this (my condolences) the Vedema also offers transportation to its private beach.
